Natural Gas Distribution Company

On April 28, 2023, Valley Energy filed for a revenue increase with the New York Public Service Commission for the Company’s New York Gas service area. The Company filed the requested rate relief to increase its annual revenues by $300,000, or 13.82% in total revenues. The Company’s last rate increase was in 2018.  The Company requests that the changes to rates go into effect September 1, 2023.  Details of these changes may be found in the Commission’s docket of proceedings at http://www.dps.ny.gov by searching for Case No. 23-G-0227 in the Commission’s File Search function.

Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST)

Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST) is a flexible, stainless steel pipe used to supply natural gas in residential, commercial and industrial structures.  CSST is often coated with a yellow or black exterior plastic coating.  CSST is usually found on top of ceiling joists in attic spaces, inside interior wall cavities or near floor joists in a basement.

If lightning strikes a structure containing CSST, there is a risk the lightning can travel into and through the structure’s natural gas piping system and cause a leak, or in some cases, a fire.  A proper bonding or grounding device will reduce the chances of a natural gas leak or fire.  It is safe to use when properly grounded.

If you find CSST in your home or business, customers should hire a licensed electrician to inspect the equipment to ensure it is properly grounded.
